Praised by the S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung for his \u201eglowing, distinctive and exciting masculine tone” as \u201eone of the great cello-talents of our time\u201c\u00b4(S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung, 15.10.2013), cellist Valentin Radutiu was born in Munich and received his first cello lessons from his father at the age of six. He later studied in Salzburg, Vienna and Berlin with Clemens Hagen, Heinrich Schiff und David Geringas.<\/p>\n
Valentin Radutiu has won national and international competitions, was distinguished several times at the \u201cJugend musiziert\u201d competition and the Dotzauer Competition in Dresden, and won first prize at the International Karl Davidov Competition in Riga. In 2011 he was honored with the Music Prize of German Business, one of the most important prizes for up-and-coming young musicians in Germany. In 2012 Valentin Radutiu won second prize at the International Enescu Competition in Bucharest.<\/p>\n
Valentin Radutiu has performed with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Deutsche Radiophilharmonie Saarbr\u00fccken, the Symphonieorchester of the MDR Leipzig and the SWR Stuttgart, M\u00fcnchener Kammerorchester, Camerata Salzburg, Bucharest\u2019s Filarmonica Enescu and the Radio-Symphony-Orchestra, the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, S\u00fcdwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim, Prague Philharmonia, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, W\u00fcrttembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn and the World Youth Symphony Orchestra and has appeared at the Berliner Philharmonie, Munich’s Prinzregententheater, Philharmonie and Herkulessaal, the Konzerthaus Berlin, Philharmonic Hall Riga, Konserthuset Stockholm, Bucharest Atheneum, Hong Kong City Hall, and has partnered with conductors such as Wolfram Christ, Gustavo Gimeno, Pablo Gonzales, Stanislaw Kochanowski, Leo\u0161 Sv\u00e1rovsky and Radoslaw Szulc. He has been heard at numerous festivals, including the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, Heidelberger Fr\u00fchling, Cellobiennale Amsterdam, Honk Kong Arts Festival, SoNoRo, F\u00fcrstensaal Classix, Klangspuren Tirol.<\/p>\n
His chamber music partners include the Hagen Quartet, Ib Hausmann, Evgeni Bozhanov, Diana Ketler, Igor Ozim, Alina Pogostkina, Per Rundberg, the Schumann Quartet, Antje Weithaas and the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic.<\/p>\n
Radutiu has released several CD recordings: In addition to the 2011 debut CD an album with French works by Lalo, Ravel and Magnard is available; the 2014 release of the Complete works for cello and piano by George Enescu with Per Rundberg was praised by critics as a benchmark recording (Haenssler Classic). Radutiu\u2019s intensive collaboration with the composer and conductor Peter Ruzicka is documented by his premier recording of Ruzicka’s cello concerto and cello chamber music.<\/p>\n
In 2015, Radutiu\u2019s album \u201eRemembering the rain\u201c with jazz pianist Benjamin Schaefer was released, most recently a CD with the M\u00fcnchner Kammerorchester and cello concertos by Haydn, CPE Bach and Mozart. A recital album with Evgeni Bozhanov (Rachmaninov and Tschaikovsky) will follow.<\/p>\n
2017 highlights are Radutiu’s debuts with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie and the Schumann cello concerto at the “Glocke” Bremen, as well as Shostakovitch’s 1st concerto with the Czech Philharmonic and Cristian Macelaru at the Enescu Festival in Bucharest.<\/p>\n
